Giants starting RT McKenzie might miss game in Kansas City with sprained knee

Having not missed a start since Nov. 5, 2006, the New York Giants starting right tackle Kareem McKenzie, however, might have to miss this weekend’s game in Kansas City against the winless Chiefs. The cause is a sprained right knee.

On Monday, McKenzie said that his knee was “wonderful” as he walked into the locker room. And on the same day, Coach Tom Coughlin said that his status for the game against the Chiefs is uncertain while starting left guard Rich Seubert will likely play even though Seubert was also injured (right shoulder) in the 24-0 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.

Other injured players that would return to field include cornerbacks Aaron Ross and Kevin Dockery and rookie receiver Hakeen Nicks. Ross and Dockey have missed three games with hamstring injuries, and Nicks’ foot injury has kept him out for the past two weeks.

Quadriceps strain made Cowboys RB Barber inactive for Monday game against Panthers

The Dallas Cowboys running back Marion Barber was hurt on a 35-yard run on his final carry in last week’s loss to the New York Giants. Afterwards, he was limited in practice and then was ruled out for Monday night’s game against the Carolina Panthers.

After being hurt, Barber had said that he wanted to play against the Panthers even though he was unable to take part in a full practice with the injury. However, the team finally to put him into rest and have Felix Jones starting in Barber’s place. It was still uncertain when Barber would be back to the field.

As for the Panthers, they also lost several players because of injuries. Linebacker Na’il Diggs was out with bruised ribs, starting strong safety Chris Harris injured knee, fullback Brad Hoover injured back spasms and defensive Everette Brown had ankle hurt. Returning players include defensive tackle Nick Hayden, who was back with the team after missing last week’s game against the Atlanta Falcons because of bruised toe.

Browns RB Lewis still on injury report and to miss Sunday game against Ravens

The Cleveland Browns have been prepared for letting rookie James Davis and Jerome Harrison split the carries against the Baltimore Ravens, with running back Jamal Lewis still nursing an injured hamstring and probably missing Sunday’s game.

The Browns’ Friday practice became Lewis’ third straight practice to be missed since he was hurt during last week’s loss to the Denver Broncos. He has been put on the team’s injury report and listed as doubtful for this weekend’s game-it is said there is at least a 75 percent chance he won’t play.

Davis gave an impressive performance during preseason. But neither he nor Harrison is expected to be as durable as Lewis, who has played in at least 15 games in each of the past four seasons.

Colts will play Sunday game against Cardinals without two starting LBs

The Indianapolis Colts practiced on Wednesday without two starting linebackers: starting middle linebacker Gary Brackett and weak-side starter Clint Session, both of which have suffered injuries and could miss Sunday night’s game at Arizona.

Losing both Brackett and Session would deplete further a defense that's having trouble stopping the run. Especially, the Colts will face the Cardinals, who will have wide receivers Larry Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston playing on Sunday night. Therefore, the Colts did not only pick Freddy Keiaho to play the middle instead of Brackett and second-year pro Philip Wheeler to replace Session, they also resigned linebacker Jordan Senn to reinforce the position.

The Colts also expect rookie cornerback Jerraud Powers to return and be able to wear back colts jersey and play against the Cardinals. Powers missed the game against the Miami Dolphins with a groin injury and veteran Tim Jennings replaced him in the starting lineup, but he was constantly victimized by Miami wide receiver Ted Grinn Jr. So the Colts defense really needs Powers back in the lineup.

Lions Coach Schwartz is confident in rookie QB Stafford

Although the first overall pick’s performance has been shaky since he put on nfl jersey, the Detroit Lions Coach Jim Schwartz still felt confident in rookie quarterback Stafford and told reporters that he would not mover from Stafford to veteran Daunte Culppepper.

"He's our quarterback," Schwartz said of Stafford. "We're pleased with him. He's going to be a very good quarterback in this league, and we're going to win with him. We liked both quarterbacks. We thought Matt was the right player to lead this team. We still do. And I think when it's all said and done, we're going to be very happy in that decision."

Stafford, as the first overall pick, has been often compared to Mark Sanchez, the fifth overall pick by the New York Jets. While Stafford’s performance has been shaky, Sanchez made it to solid in the Jets' 2-0 start. The Stats of them are as following:

Stafford: 0-2, 1 TD, 5 interceptions, 40.5 passer rating.

Sanchez: 2-0, 1 interception, 90.3 passer rating, 0 TD for the defense of the Jets has yet to allow a touchdown.

$400,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from home of Bills safety Whitner

After the Buffalo Bills won over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, the Bills safety Donte Whitner found a big loss at home: someone stole about $400,000 worth of jewelry from his home.

“It’s mind-boggling,” said the player’s spokeswoman Patrice Horton, who described Whitner as upset and hurt. “He’s safe, but he’s on high alert. He doesn’t know who did this.”

Police have been investigating the theft and Hamburg Detective Lt. Kevin Trask released few details because of the ongoing investigation. He would not say whether there was evidence of a forced entry or when the theft might have happened.

The theft caused more concern among the Bills players, maybe as well as a lot players in other teams' nfl jerseys, after Leodis McKelvin’s front lawn in the same suburb was vandalized by two teenagers last week. They have been worrying about their privacy and safety although there was no evidence showing that the theft and what happened at McKelvin’s home were unrelated.

Redskins won over Rams, each having on player injured

Sunday’s game between the Washington Redskins and the St. Louis Rams ended with Redskins’ winning and one player injured in each team.

The Redskins may have to see their right guard Randy Thomas done for the season with a right triceps injury. Thomas was injured in the first half of the Sunday’s game and would be evaluated today. But before that, the team had taken it as they have lost Thomas for the season and had third-year player Will Montgomery taking the place of the 11-year veteran.

And the Rams lost their right tackle Jason Smith in the second quarter for a knee injury. According to Rams Coach Steve Spagnuolo, Smith would undergo an MRI to determine the severity of the injury, and it was uncertain how long the injury would keep Smith out.

Vikings coach Childress will be careful with Favre status to avoid fine

After the NFL recently fined the New York Jets and coach Eric Mangini for failure to list Brett Favre on the injury report last season with his throwing arm hurt, the Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress felt that it is necessary for him to be diligent with Favre’s injury status to avoid fine.

By so far, Favre has not been listed on the injury report although the quarterback recently said that he might have a cracked rib. And it is not strange at all for media to focus on how Childress will approach the report each week when it comes to the 39-year-old quarterback.

Childress said that he’d rather save the $25,000 for college tuition for his kids. And he has told Favre that he would not hesitate to put the quarterback on injury report if necessary.

Cowboys QB Romo will start Sunday game against Giants despite injured ankle

The Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo sprained his ankle in the second quarter against Tampa Bay, but with that injury he still passed for a career-high 353 yards and three touchdowns, and planned to start as schedule on Sunday night in the game against the New York Giants.

Although Romo still needed to walk around with his foot wrapped in ice before practice Wednesday, he said that he would be fine to play on Sunday. "I'll be fine," Romo said. "There's nothing wrong with it. … It will be 100 percent.”

But the Giants have an outstanding defensive line, and Romo knows well that they have a bunch of guys that can rotate in and he will face a strong Giants front seven. However, the Cowboys are confident in Romo’s ability. Indeed, he is good at eluding defenders in the pocket and moving long enough to create big plays. So it is really a game worth high expectation.

DE Keisel signed five-year new contract with Steelers

On Monday, defensive end Brett Keisel became the eighth player to reach a new deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers since they won the Super Bowl in February, signing a five-year contract with the team.

The contract will keep Keisel with the Steelers through 2013, and the details of the contract terms were not available yet. He was believed to have made $3.25 million this season, which is the final year of his old contract. The Steelers’ seventh-round draft pick in 2002 has been considered to be a key to what statistically was the NFL's top defense the last two seasons, although he does not accumulate a lot of sacks in the Steelers' 3-4 system.

As the Steelers have a policy of not negotiating during the regular season, there will be not ninth player to sign new contract before the season opener against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 10.

TCU AD Morrison succeeded son of Panthers owner as team president

One day after Mark Richardson, son of Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson, announced his resignations, the 73-year-old owner gave the job to Texas Christian University athletic director Danny Morrison, giving a major front office job to someone outside the family for the first time in a decade.

Morrison said he would begin his new job by the end of the month and take over the team’s day-to-day business operations while Richardson is recovering from a February heart transplant. The 55-year-old worked as AD at Richardson’s alma mater Wofford College, which was also site of Carolina’s training camp, before he went to TCU in 2005.

“We are very familiar with Danny and he is very familiar with our organization,” Richardson said in a statement. “He has been successful as a college administrator and commissioner and brings a business expertise and sense of community that fits the position perfectly.”

Richardson’s son Jon Richardson also resigned on the same day his brother Mark Richardson made the announcement. It was uncertain whether the two resigned because of a family rift.

Pacman could return to pro football by signing with a CFL team

After ending his career in NFL, Adam “Pacman” Jones found a way back to pro football by looking for a job in a CFL team. His attorney, Worrick Robinson, said Tuesday that they were close to a deal with a CFL team and negotiations would have result by the end of the week.

“He’s still young and has a lot of playing days ahead of him,” Robinson said. “If the CFL deal works out, it will be a good opportunity for him to get back on the field and show what he can do.”

Jones spent last season with the Dallas Cowboys after being suspended by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for the 2007 season because of multiple violations of the NFL personal conduct policy. He was arrested six times and involved in 12 instances requiring police intervention during his time with the Tennessee Titans. He was suspended again for another behavior-related suspension after joining the Cowboys and played only six games for the Dallas.

But the 26-year-old trouble-maker is still a popular among football leagues. Beside a chance to joining the CFL, he also has drawn interest from the UFL, the new four-team league scheduled to begin play in October.
