This week the players who received fines from the NFL include the Arizona Cardinals safety Antrel Rolle, tackle Levi Brown, the Indianapolis Colts cornerback Jacob Lacey, the Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams, Cleveland Browns linebacker Kaluka Maiava, New York Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw and safety Michael Johnson.
Cardinals Rolle was fined $7,500 for hitting tight end Kevin Boss of the Giants in last Sunday’s win, and Brown was fined $5,000 for a chop block, the same as the Panthers Williams, who did the chop block in last Sunday’s loss to the Buffalo Bills while picking up a blitz.
Colts Lacey received a fine of $10,000 because he went to the ground to celebrate after a touchdown in a win over St. Louis Rams and the league considered that was unsportsmanlike conduct.
Browns rookie Maiava, Giants Bradshaw and Johnson each was fined $5,000 for unnecessary roughness. Maiava hit Packers receiver Greg Jennings in the game, Bradshaw struke DT in Cardinals jersey named Darnell Dockett in the face mask last Sunday, and Johnson hit Kurt Warner in the head in the same game.

NFL: it is ok for Redskins to prevent fans from taking signs
According to the NFL spokesman Greg Aiello, to prevent fans from bringing any signs to home games is a team and stadium matter and the league does not plan to stop the team from doing that.
That was what Aiello said in an e-mail to The Associated Press on Thursday. He also wrote in the mail that NFL teams are responsible for preventing the display of signs that obstruct sightlines or “which are inflammatory, derogatory or generally in bad taste.” That means fans, supporting or protesting will not be allowed to take any signs or banners into the stadium where the Redskins play their home games.
Although Redskins COO David Donovan said during a radio appearance on 106.7 The Fan that they prevent spectators from carrying signs or banners into the game for fan security and comfort, it just easily reminded me of the fact that there has been increasing sings critical of owner Dan Snyder and front office chief Vinny Cerrato during Washington’s 2-5 start and gets me to wonder the relationship between the ban and the front office. I guess some fans will anyway find other methods to express their feelings, like printing signs on the NFL jerseys they are wearing?

Redskins TE may return to action in a month
The Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley had ankle surgery on Wednesday, two days after he was injured in the first half of Monday’s 27-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. And the team said the player could return to action in a month.
Really great news- the team had originally feared that they would have to sideline the two-time Pro Bowl player for at least two months or place him on the season-ending injured reserve. That would be the biggest loss for the season to the Redskins. Now the loss has been reduced as Cooley is expected to miss only four weeks after the surgery.
But the four weeks’ missing is still Cooley’s longest time of being absent from game since he was put on the Redskins jersey after the third round in 2004. Before the injury, Cooley had 29 catches for 332 yards and two touchdowns this season.

Broncos WR Marshall has part-time job in TV
The Denver Broncos wide receiver Brandon Marshall will seen on TV without wearing his Broncos jersey on next Tuesday night, not as the focus of a piece of news, but as a host of “Sports Soup” on Versus to say something interest about sports.
“I think it’s always fun to be able to joke about something that you do,” the Pro Bowl receiver told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Tuesday. He even plans to poke fun at the training camp tantrum that drew him a nine-day suspension.
Marshall, who has 29 catches for 332 yards and four touchdowns for the undefeated Broncos this season, has done some sports broadcasting in the past. But he said that experience will not help him much for the new hosting job. However, he at least knows how the show goes on as he is a fan and has watched a lot of episodes.

Dolphins lost CB Allen to knee injury for the season
The Miami Dolphins cornerback Will Allen (not the Will Allen in Buccaneers jersey) will not play the remaining games for the season in his Dolphins jersey as he hurt the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the third quarter of the Dolphins’ loss to the New Orleans Saints. The injury is just serious enough to end his season.
According to Coach Tony Sparano, Allen’s knee needs surgery and a lot of time to recover. The 2009 first-round draft pick Vontae Davis will take over Allen’s job to start in the lineup against the New York Jets this Sunday. Another rookie, second-round pick Sean Smith will start opposite Davis as he has been starting opposite Allen.
Sparano conceded he was unsure whether the rookies were ready to assume such a load.
“They need to mature really fast,” Sparano said. “I don’t know if they’re equipped for 10 games in a row of doing full-time duty without having Will Allen out there. But these guys are playing at pretty good levels.”
But he has to trust them. Their performance has not been bad. Davis has seen significant playing time as a reserve and on special teams, playing 28 snaps Sunday against the Saints. Packers OT Clifton did not play Sunday against Browns
The Green Bay Packers starting left tackle Chad Clifton must regret for not being able to play Sunday’s 31-3 victory over the Cleveland Browns. But what could he do? He was just listed as inactive with a damn injured ankle.
Clifton had already missed two games earlier this season because of the injury. And for Sunday’s game, he was replaced by rookie T.J. Lang, who tried to protect quarterback Aaron Rodgers, who had been sacked an NFL-high 25 times this season before Sunday, and did not do a bad job.
Players missing game on Sunday also included tight ends Steve Heiden and Robert Royal. Heiden injured his knee and Royal had injuries both on hamstring and finger. It was Greg Estandia who replaced Royal and started on Sunday.

Vikings CB Winfield was listed doubtful against Steelers
The Pittsburgh Steelers may feel a bit eased when they learned that the Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl cornerback Antoine Winfield was listed doubtful for Sunday’s game. It just made it more possible for them to keep their 100-yard streak.
Winfield was injured last Sunday in the second quarter against the Baltimore Ravens and did not practice all week. Benny Sapp would likely get the starting job in his place if Winfield cannot play Sunday. But Winfield’s absence, coupled with the bumps and bruises affecting safety Madieu Williams and backup safety Husain Abdullah, will make life much easier for Ben Roethlisberger, the quarterback in Steelers jersey and the Steelers second-ranked passing offense.
Fortunately, starting running back Adrian Peterson, ankles injured, right tackles Phil Loadholt with ankle injury and backup safety Eric Frampton, also ankle injured, are all probable for Sunday game. Punt returner Darius Rey with hamstring injured is also doubtful. And along with Williams and Abdullah, Vikings kick returner and receiver Percy Harvin was questionable with shoulder injury.
